Don Williams Jr
Born & Raised in Dunkirk, NY
Graduated Dunkirk High School in 1987
Wife, Lisa Williams, also born and raised in Dunkirk, NY and also graduated DHS in 1987. Lisa is a Kindergarten teacher @ School 5 in Dunkirk and a proud member of Dunkirk Teacher’s Association (NYSUT/AFT).
Don & Lisa have 5 children between them; Brian Kobel, Nick Kobel, Sarah Kobel, Donny Williams (III) & Danny Williams.
Don has been a Chautauqua County Employee since March/1999 and has been with the Chautauqua County Highway since January/2001. Don’s current title with the County is Motorized Equipment Operator (MEO).
Don has been a proud union member of CSEA Local 807/Unit 6300 since being hired by Chautauqua County. Don has been a CSEA Union Steward since 2000 and an officer on either the Local or Unit since 2005 (Currently the 1st Vice-President of CSEA Unit 6300, Chautauqua County Employees).
As well as being a CSEA Union Activist, Don has also been a delegate to the Dunkirk Central Labor Council (AFL-CIO) since 2001 and an officer since 2005 (Currently the Vice-President). Don comes from a Labor family with his late Father (Don Sr) a former USWA 2693 member (30+ years at Al-Tech) and his mother, Arlene a retired AFSCME Local 912 member (39 years in the Dunkirk City Clerk’s Office) and Arlene is currently a member of CSEA Retiree Local 903 Unit 3.
Don has been on both the City of Dunkirk and Chautauqua County Democratic Committees since 1997. Don has held office in the DDC since 2005 (currently Vice Chair) and has been the 1st Vice Chair for the Chautauqua County Democratic Committee since 2012.
Prior to running for the Dunkirk City Council-Ward One seat in 2015, Don had never run for political office before.
Don’s community support ranges from coaching Dunkirk Little League Girls Softball (Pacos Construction) at the age of 16 (for 11 years), 2 years coaching Softball (Hank Bokman) in Fredonia Little League (his niece Angela’s team). Don then coached in the Dunkirk Little League from 2002-2015 (Valvoline T-Ball, Hometown Insurance Minor League and Kosciuszko Club Major League & Senior League).
Don is a proud Polish-American (Mother’s maiden name is Bialaszewski) and a proud member of Blessed Mary Angela Roman Catholic Church. Don volunteers for parish events and is a member of the parish’s Holy Name Society.
Don belongs to several clubs and organizations and is an active member. He has served on boards of the Polish Literary & Assembly Rooms Association, Inc. (Dom Polski) and the First Ward Falcons Club.
Since on Council, Don has raised City resident’s issues to the Council and has worked to try to resolve resident’s issues no matter which ward they live in. Don chairs the City’s DPW Committee and is assigned to Personnel and Finance.
Simply put, for Don’s whole adult life, he has served and worked for the Community!
